The equipment (Destuff-it) is so simple, employees required very little training ... The ROI on our investment was approximately nine months.

The truth is, this used to be a 12-hour process for us. ... Now we start at four in the morning and we’re done by noon. ... We’ve doubled the amount of cartons we can move per hour.

The Destuff-it has been an essential addition to our receiving process. We have increased our unload capacity, from 1 container per day to 3 containers per day, with most unloads taking 2 hours to complete.

Averitt doubled its unloading rate and stopped back injuries at the dock

Averitt transloads 2,000 to 3,000 floor-loaded containers a year. Unloading by hand took 12-hour shifts and was the leading cause of back strain on the team. After adding Destuff-it units, the same work finishes in an 8-hour shift.

Ergonomic Research

Less strain is part of the return

Manual material handling is one of the most injury-prone jobs in any warehouse. The equipment we integrate is designed to keep every lift close to waist height and every load moving on a belt, not on a back.

Ohio State University study: Destuff-it type conveyors

Researchers at The Ohio State University’s Institute for Ergonomics measured muscle activity (EMG) and spine motion in workers loading and unloading trailers at two distribution centres. They compared a standard extendable conveyor with an articulating belt conveyor and height-adjustable platform of the Destuff-it type.

  • Lower activation of the erector spinae, the main low-back muscles, on both sides of the body
  • Lower activation of the anterior deltoid, the front shoulder muscle
  • Slower spine motions, a known factor in low-back injury risk
  • Measured for both unloading (shoe DC) and loading (apparel DC) tasks
